Ciara Donlon is one of those fashion entrepreneurs who oozes passion for the industry. Previously owner of Cupcakes Lingerie in Ranelagh, I met up with Ciara just before the official fashion news of Theya Lingerie broke to find out more about her range of post-operative lingerie. The range is exclusively for women who are recovering from breast cancer surgery, cosmetic surgery and/or undergoing radiotherapy treatment. The fashion retail range is now available in Arnotts Lingerie Department with prices ranging from €26.50 – €48.
THEYA Lingerie is headquartered at NovaUCD, the Centre for New Ventures and Entrepreneurs at University College Dublin (UCD). Speaking to breast cancer survivors, Ciara identified a gap in the fashion retail market for a specific type of post-surgery lingerie. To fill this gap she established THEYA Lingerie and works with Kelly Lakin, an experienced lingerie designer.
The Irish company’s lingerie range has been designed to be wire and seamfree allowing for comfort and non-irritation to sensitive areas. OEKO-TEX® certified bamboo fabric is used in the manufacture of its products which is soft and gentle on the skin, thermally regulating, 300% more absorbent than cotton and wickable. In addition the bamboo fabric has anti-bacterial properties which assist with the healing process. The company’s recovery range of lingerie is suitable to be worn directly after surgery up until the woman has healed fully from her surgery.
Exciting news for a fashion industry which until now has been devoid of such a specific solution for women. Not only that but Ciara is also offering fashion retail a unique product at an affordable price point.
Ciara explained to me “With the input of breast cancer survivors we have now designed, produced and launched an innovative range of recovery lingerie that is specifically tailored to the needs of women following breast surgery. By speaking to these women, and by working closely with the medical industry, it became clear that our products are also extremely suited to women who have undergone cosmetic breast surgery and women who are going undergoing radiotherapy treatment.”
She added, “Following the launch of our post-operative recovery range and we are now designing and developing a post-operative swimwear range, sportswear range and a nightwear range.”
