Monochrome for autumn

Published on: August 14, 2013

One of this autumn’s classic colour combo for you to get your mits on is monochrome, or put simply – black and white. Seen big style on the runways of Balenciaga, Gareth Pugh, Alexander Wang and many more it is a trend I will be embracing as when it is gone out of fashion, black and white is always in fashion! It is a true wardrobe winner.

Whether it be graphic prints, stark stripes, contrast blocking or grid-like checks, there will be something for everyone in the shops. No longer reserved for basics and formal events, what I have seen coming into the shops demonstrates just how bold and fresh black and white can truly be!

Here are some top tips for getting the most from this must have look:

Think of the part of your shape you really want to show off and go for a bold monochrome graphic print in this area. For example if you are a pear shape (bigger on hips and bum and smaller on top) a graphic print on your top half will really draw the eye here and away from your bottom half.

If you are conscious of your tummy, use this clever trick called column dressing. This simply means wearing a black cardi with a white top underneath leaving it open so you can see one long column of colour down the middle. Super slimming on your tummy.

If you are very slim and looking to create some curves have fun with monochrome by clashing different prints and patterns. This is a girly and fun way to give yourself more curves.
