What a great time of year to be a student, learning their trade as a personal stylist. With so much amazing fashion in the shops at this time of the year, you have bright colours, fresh fabrics and oodles of amazing accessories! Styling inspiration is everywhere! So it came as no surprise I had a very happy and eager class of personal stylists in House of Fraser last night for week 8 of their Diploma in Personal Styling.
Having completed all their colour theory last week in class, they got to put it all into practice on the shop floor, creating looks for potential clients as part of set tasks created as part of their training.
First off they got familiar with all the various colour tones choosing warm, cool, soft, bright, light and deep colours and from there having built their confidence we ventured into creative styling where they each created looks for sample clients around the different colour systems.
In teaching colour to personal stylists it is about a mixture of confidence in understanding the theory but also being able to have fun on the shop floor when styling clients. There are so many different shades and tones of every single colour to choose from each season, the best personal stylists should be able to interpret colour in a fun way for their customer, using accessories and clever styling tricks to really bring looks together and always using more than 2 colours as a benchmark in showing your client how to push their colour boundaries!
After all, if you do what you’ve always done you’ll get what you’ve always got!
My current students are well on their way!
