The big personal stylist question
Most women will admit to being happiest in their pyjama’s. They are uber comfortable, make us feel good and make us happy. So, surely all our styling dreams have been answered? PJ’s are in (and can be seen in collections from Celine and Jonathan Saunders more than once)! But should you really venture outside the house in them and should any self respecting personal stylist suggest them as a look you should actually try to rock?
Well, my answer is one you perhaps will love and hate in equal measure….because I say yes! In moderation Selecting the ‘correct’ items that tie in with your style, your look and what you love to wear is key. Also, opting to stay clear of full on girls night in territory and going more for less is more with one good piece is probably how a great personal stylist will show you how to try this trend out! So, personal stylists and fashion lovers out there, read my tips below to help you embrace those pjs….
This is not the time to go wild on hair and make-up. Think pared back and groomed (unless you want the just got out of bed look, literally). Heels are a must to dress up your silks. If you go for a silk pyjama top team with something fitted on your bottom half. Style with some lippy and nail varnish, again to achieve that polished finish you need.
OPT FOR DARK RICH COLOURS
They tend to work better for this look as they are rich, elegant and conjure up a more powerful, in control feel. Pastels can simple say ‘i’m ready for bed’.
CHOOSE YOUR FABRIC CAREFULLY
A little more expensive will probably work best. Silk would be my go to choice for styling. Cotton can be harder to achieve an outdoors feel! (Personal stylists be aware!). Try shops like Whistles, Zara and H&M for different price point options.
ADD TO YOUR TRADITIONAL TROUSER SUIT
This is the look to give you a bang on trend alternative to your traditional trouser suit. Look for pieces that are a little less Bridget Jones and a lot more Audrey hepburn obvs
Every Stylefish student will tell you one of my personal styling rules, is to have fun. Not to play it too safe and to always try things that challenge both you and the women you get to help. That’s what style is all about and the pjs trend will definitely challenge this theory!
