Spring is just about upon us and with that comes a whole new season of the latest fashion trends to look forward to! Out with the sales, in with the excitement of a new year of fashion possibilities. It is my duty to scrutinise and immerse myself in all the details so I can hopefully share, advise and inspire my clients, classes, trainees and retailers throughout the season ahead.

Feathers were featured heavily on the runways for Spring both in a subtle and bold way. You can take your pick. This is one trend sure to inspire many occasion looks over the Spring/ Summer with everything from bags, feather boas and dress details sure to be adorned with our soft fluffy friend. While the Autumn channeled the wild west with many fringes coming through, Spring is a more girly with a juxtaposition between a more detailed offering of lots of colour against a backdrop of simplicity and elegant whites and creams most especially with detailing around the waist of dresses and skirts. Take inspiration from my favourites Preen and Whistles.
This, one of my favourite trends in my Spring trends report. It featured heavily also in Autumn and it is here to stay and dare I say it more ‘practical’ for Spring. Hopefully with a little more sunshine ahead and a lot more bravery we can all play with this trend. A way to show off a little flesh without showing off too much. Style is all about balance and detail and this trend really does it for me. It is sexy, cool and understated in abundance. Take your inspiration from this great blog post ‘Sheer Genius’ from Style.com.
Back from my trip to the sales I already see this trend dominating the high street with Zara, Warehouse and H&M offering great pieces channeling the collar and button down shirt on soft wispy fabrics with some nice detailing. I expect professional wardrobes everywhere will adore this one. Relaxed, smart and comfortable think functional Hugo Boss meets pared back simplicity from Celine.
This is a winner. We all need help defining our curves, emphasising our curves and choosing the right options for our curves as most of us lucky enough have them! This trend embraces the phenomenon of showing off, not hiding! Nipping in and not layering! Finally. Marilyn can sleep soundly. On the runways this trend was shown in simple ways easing women into the idea that the waist is sexy.
Designer Rosie Assoulin (one to watch for this trend) calls her trousers the ‘fullet’ or ‘front mullet’. The added fabric on her interpretation adds drama while still being wearable. At it’s simplest you can look out for waist cinching dresses with detailing, tying shirts around waists and looking at ways to introduce more volume flowing from the waist.
With it’s roots defined in spring picnic wear, gingham is here to stay this season. It’s girly, sophisticated and fun with a nod to classic shapes, tailoring and investment pieces and that is what captured my heart about this trend. Great for casual and workwear wardrobes you can go to extremes with slit thigh skirts and plunge necklines or keep it more Charlotte from Sex and the City with simple tops and midi skirts.
THE SLOUCHY TREND
If you go loose, you must go luxe. If you remember one thing, this should be it! Less definition requires more money to perfect! Look for great pieces that really add to your wardrobe like the slouchy trench coat and soft flowing sheer tops. It should be easy but to get right, this is a trend I would look to shops like Whistles, Massimo Duitti and Cos for proper results. Look to Chloe for some runway inspiration.
DRESSED UP SKIRTS
Skirts. Are. Everywhere. Who doesn’t love a gorgeous skirt? This season you can have a lot of fun with the skirt. In fact why just wear a dress or trousers when you can wear a skirt over them? Now your getting the picture. Skirts. Are Everywhere.
From mini to knee length to midi to the newest of the new the longer midi. Peter Som inspired wardrobes everywhere with his Spring ready to wear collection.
Leather has been the texture of choice for Autumn and now expect to become a suede convert. Think less Indiana Jones and more rich, decadent options designed for women everywhere. This is one best left for the eyes to visualise so check out Jason Wu, Altuzarra, and Tibi for some serious eye candy.
