It is that time of year again when I get to immerse myself in every little fashion detail, putting together class formats, trend stories and accessory mood boards to share in fashion classes and corporate events throughout the season. In addition I have been putting together my AW trend card for Zip Yard stores around the country to inspire some fresh restyling fun with customers.

So, whether you are a fashion trend follower or you like to rebel against them entirely, the one thing you can’t do is deny their existence! They are always there, always influencing, always evolving and always dictating the next thing we are going to see on the high street.

I thought this week for my blog post, I would share the top 5 trends that have really inspired me and my class content plus the other ones you need to know about!

This trend particularly inspired me to think about some dresses I have in my wardrobe that I am going to have seperated into two pieces that I actually wear rather than leave sitting there in one piece I don’t ever wear! This is a super trend for encouraging people to get into restyling things they already have, which is very hot right now. It gives you lots of fashion kudos and satisfaction!

SHEER FABRICS

Seen on the AW catwalks of Rag & Bone, Reed Krakoff, Zero + Maria, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, BCBG, Marc Jacobs and many more. A gorgeous way to show some skin without showing too much. A definite winner for me.

ETHNIC INSPIRATION

Folk motifs and gorgeous embroideries have been subtly coming through for a couple of seasons now. It’s finally here with a bang. Expect rich colours, delicate fabrics and unusual accessories with this vibe.

ETHNIC INSPIRATION

1950’S GLAMOUR

There are definitely two sides to this seasons collections. On the one hand you can expect mannish suits, oversized jackets and 80’s inspired shoulders. On the other is an ever-growing sensibility towards the 1950s signature elements of femininity. Swing jackets and full skirts will be all the rage. I started the season with the purchase of a mound of tulle (skirt) from website www.chicwish.com. Look out for retro hats too.

EMBELLISHMENT

No autumn season should be without its fair share of sparkle, or so it seems as the road towards Autumn 2014 appears to be paved with enough shining beads and luxurious crystals to light up the night sky. For me this is the trend that brings the season together. Used to accent the feminine 1950’s with a little edge while at the same time add a modern fun touch to the seasons relaxed sports vibe.

EMBELLISHMENTS

CAPES, CUT OUTS & EMERALD GREEN

To finish, three trends I decided I absolutely could not leave out in the cold (pun intended). Emerald Green is one of those rich, elegant colours that makes Autumn feel much more welcome. Mix it with some sophisticated shapes and tailoring and you have a winning formula. As for the cape, expect to love this jacket by about October as the high street goes into cape overdrive taking inspiration from the big boys like Dolce & Gabanna, Gareth Pugh, Etro, Fendi, Moschino, Roberty Cavalli…the list goes on.

CAPES, CUT OUTS & EMERALD GREEN

If your lucky enough to be part of a Stylefish class ;-) to get your Autumn trends fix, expect lots of layering, statement accessories, retro hats, midi skirts, beautiful embroidered coats, reds, feminine leopard skirts, pastels, beautiful grey wool coats, fur, digital prints, gold shimmer and leather. Now the shorter days don’t seem so bad after all..

Welcome to the new season!
