Meet The stylists
Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Gillian McGuire and I am 35 years old. I am from Arigna, Co. Roscommon but I now live in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. I work in the civil service but I feel there has always been a stylist in me dying to get out. When I went to the Stylefish information evening and talked to Julie I knew this was the perfect avenue for me to fulfill my dream.
What do you look forward to most about being a Stylefish Stylist?
I look forward to working in fashion and sharing my love of fashion in my stylefish classes. I think what I look forward to most is helping women to learn about their body shape and colours in order to inspire confidence in their wardrobe choices. I also want to show women that there is no need to be afraid of any colour as there is a shade of every colour out there for everybody.
Describe your personal style
My own style is fun, comfortable and a little bit hippy and as a stylefish stylist I can now describe that under two of the style personality headings - 'romantic' and 'creative'. I also have a bit of an accessory addiction so I probably have too many bags, shoes and hats!
Who are your top three most stylish women in the world?
I think style is more and more the people you see in the street in the way people create individual looks but if I had to name 3 it would be Dannii Minogue, Amy Huberman and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Where do you love to shop?
I love shopping for accessories when I am away as you can pick up some great gems that are really unusual and can make an outfit. I love TK Maxx for a nosey and finding unusual clothes at a great price. I love finding a bargain so will always pop into a shop that is having a sale, even if it is not a shop I would normally go into as this is often where you will find that brilliant item. I love Oasis and Promod for dresses.
What is your favourite thing in your wardrobe?
At the moment my favourite things in my wardrobe are my leather look biker jacket that I bought in Oasis with a christmas voucher and a black and white shift dress from Promod that I have about 7 years that always makes me feel great. I also have a pair of grey wool boots from rocket dog that were a christmas present and I love them!
Your best fashion tip?
Never under estimate the power of accessories. They are a great way to update an outfit or just a way of introducing a seasons trend/colour that you might be a little too scared to try in full.
Why is fashion so important to you?
Fashion is my way to express my individuality and creativeness. I love getting up in the morning and being able to capture how your feeling in your outfit. If I look good in what I am wearing I feel good!
If you were given €100 to create an outfit, describe what you would do?
I would probably get a whole outfit if the sales were on. If not I think I would buy a dress as they are a full outfit and you can style them to make them different every time you wear them.
When was the last time you went out in an outfit that you adored? Describe it!
I was going to a wedding and I wore a really cute coral strapless dress with black polka dots (prom style but short) and the most gorgeous black sandals with large looking gem stones sewn on like buttons that I got on sale in a small shoe shop in Dublin. I felt amazing!
