Now that July has come to a close it is time to look towards Autumn (I know, scary!). Whatever weather August brings it also brings the excitement and anticipation of one of the best seasonal transitions of all. The time when us Irish ladies embrace what we love, layering, opaque tights and amazing new coats! We love getting cosy!
One such theme and trend we will be embracing on mass come September will be oversized coats. Seen on the catwalks of some of my favourite designers such as Celine, Carven and Jonathan Saunders this is either a love it or hate it trend. Now I am not talking a bit loose. Autumn’s overcoats are drastically oversized with dropped shoulders, extra long cuffs and large lapels. Here’s the thing. Everyone knows a runway model can be styled in a plastic bag and still look good but the fact does remain that it is difficult for certain looks to translate into our wardrobes. Of course, it is my job to make sure these more difficult trends are a little bit easier for us mere mortals to enjoy and embrace! Here are my tips to enjoy this hot off the runway trend:
1) Keep your look simple underneath. Nothing too frilly or flouncy and generally fitted cigarette or skinny leg trousers work best so as not to look oversized yourself!
2) It is a fun (not to be taken too seriously) trend and so treat it that way. Team with another fun colour. For example pink and coral work great together.
3) Opt for an oversized coat with a belt to help give shape at the waist.
4) This is definitely a look that works best with heels . Heels help to give a nice balance when wearing a shape that does not have any definition at the waist.
